The TERABALT radiotherapy cobalt unit represents the established technology in megavolt cobalt radiotherapy. It uses 60 Co radionuclide generating gamma rays at energies of 1.17 and 1.33 MeV as a radiation source.
The technical configuration, design and effectiveness of the device guarantee high utility value in radiotherapy clinical practice. The grade and quality of the product guarantees fulfilment of all required and generally respected qualities of radiotherapy equipment concerning the implementation as well as the Quality Assurance. The reliability of the equipment does not impose any extra requirements on the operator and on servicing.
The equipment unit is mounted onto a base frame built into the floor of the treatment room.
Replacement of the radiation source is carried out based upon the request of the customer/end-user by the authorized service organization. The radiation head with old source is replaced with another radiation head containing a new radiation source at the end-user’s site.
TERABALT is designed to be used for the following irradiation techniques: stationary radiotherapy and moving beam radiotherapy with possibilities of automatic simulation and verification of set and planned values of irradiation.
The workstation running the TERAGIS record and verify system connected to the treatment control panel includes, apart from the verification of the pre-set parameters, the verification of utilized coded connecting parts (i.e. wedge filters, pointers, shielding blocks). It is impossible to initiate the treatment session if the pre-set parameters disagree with the values obtained by the treatment planning application, such as PlanW TPS.
The isocentric patient alignment using a three-point laser targeting system, which is part of the radiotherapy cobalt unit, is simple and user-friendly. Laser system improves the accuracy and speeds up the preparation of the moving beam radiotherapy treatment.
The device with treatment couch that is equipped with a couch top made from carbon fiber material with transversally adjustable supports ensures optimal clearance for the radiation head path around the patient during moving beam radiotherapy. This device eliminates the disadvantage of short irradiation distance that complicated the moving beam radiotherapy. The solution effectively utilizes the radiation of the source that attenuates proportionally with the square of the distance.
Additional connecting parts provided with the unit will help to solve aims of the users during the preparation of the treatment as well as during the treatment itself.
TERABALT offers an economic advantage with its affordable purchase price and low costs for installation and operational maintenance.
